Srinagar, Apr 22 (KNO): Continuing its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Handwara, Kupwara and Budgam.
According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a Police team at a checkpoint established at Gundchobutra Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Umar Hamid Malla son of Ab Hamid Malla resident of Malbagh Kralgund. During search, a substantial quantity of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile in Kupwara, a police team of PS Kupwara at a checkpoint established at Wayen, Kupwara, apprehended two drug peddlers. They have been identified as Shaqeeq Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Ibrahim Khan and Mumtaz Ahmad Khan son of Ab Rashid Khan, both residents of Halmatpora, Kupwara. During search, a substantial quantity of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the accused were engaged in illicit drug trafficking activities.
In Budgam, Police have apprehended a drug peddler in the Magam area of the district and recovered a charas-like contraband substance from his possession. The operation was carried out by a police party of Police Station Magam near Eidgah Road, Bachipora Mazhama. The accused has been identified as Nazir Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat resident of Hardusuresh Khag. During search, approximately 155 grams of charas-like substance, concealed in corn husks, was recovered from his possession. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime, bearing registration number JK04H-5489, has also been seized.
Regarding the incidents, cases have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
